The Excellent fitness gained from boxing training has made the boxing & fitness
class the most popular at the Lang Park PCYC – amongst boxers
and people just looking for a good workout.
Both
males and females from 14 years and up are welcome to join in and the
popularity of the sport means it is on three times a week – from
6pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
For
the first hour the participants are given a solid workout, with exercises
including skipping, running, jumping and utilising the punching bags
and other boxing equipment available.
This
is an excellent exercise regime, combining aerobic and anaerobic workouts,
and is suitable for those who want to gain a general fitness.
Then
for the second hour Lang Park’s experienced boxing coach Phil
Ragonesi instructs boxers training for fights, including sparring in
the club’s boxing ring.
Phil
has two very able assistants in Steve Briggs and Robert Douglas, who
are both experienced boxers with titles to their name.
Anyone
interested in boxing should bring a water bottle, towel and a skipping
rope and if they have boxing gloves, they are encouraged to bring them
as well.
